Dental

It’s important to take care of your teeth just like you take care of the rest of your body. Strong, healthy teeth help you chew easily and speak clearly. And they make your smile look its best.

At Mercy Care Long Term Care, adults and children have different covered services. Dental services for adults include:

  • Pre-transplant dental services

Keeping children’s teeth healthy for a lifetime begins with preventive care. It is important to take your children to the dentist at least once a year to keep their teeth healthy. Covered services for children include:

  • Routine preventive dental services, including oral health screenings, cleanings, fluoride treatments, dental sealant, oral hygiene education, X-rays, fillings and extractions
  • Other therapeutic and medically necessary procedures

After 10/01/2010 most adult dental services are not covered. AHCCCS will only cover dental services for adults over 21 that are related to the treatment of a medical condition.

  1. Brush! The most important part of any dental hygiene program is brushing.
  2. See the dentist. Starting at age 3, kids need to go to the dentist at least once a year to learn how to take care of their teeth, to get their teeth cleaned and to fix any cavities.
  3. Ask about sealant. If your child is 6½ to 8½, talk to your dentist about dental sealant. This special coating will help keep them from getting cavities in their larger teeth, called molars. But remember, sealants don’t work on teeth that already have cavities.
